Why drink more water than coffee, soda or even juice? Anything other than water has caffeine, sugar and other additives that the body needs to filter, break down or store. And after all of that, the body may not end being hydrated the way that it needs to be.
How much water is enough? There are several different recommendations about how much water to drink in a day. The range is from 2 to 3 liters a day. If you stay within this range, you will be giving your body what it needs. This is for the average body under normal conditions.
When your body is dehydrated, it does not perform as well as it should. You can end up feeling tired and hungry when you are only looking for hydration. When the brain is dehydrated, it does not work properly. Headaches and muscle pain occurs when you have not consumed enough water.
We all see what happens to a plant to that lacks water; the same effect can occur to the human body. The body can live up to 3 weeks without any food but only 3 days without water. This fact should impress upon you how important water is to the human body.
When you are dieting it is important that your body stay hydrated and water will help you lose weight by making your stomach feel fuller and giving you a satiated feeling. Drinking water with a meal can make you feel fuller faster and drinking water in between meals will help you to not snack in between meals.
There are many reasons to drink more water on a daily basis. You can almost never have too much water in your diet. Make the effort to replace every drink with water. Coffee in the morning or a glass of wine at dinner is OK, as long as your main beverage throughout the day is water.
