There are millions of people that suffer from urinary incontinence problems around the world. In fact it is thought that over 6 million people suffer from it in the UK alone. Unfortunately it probably doesn't get the coverage that it deserves. This is probably because it can be an embarrassing problem, and can have a large effect on peoples lives. People suffering from it are often very aware of the problem making them unwilling to risk going out too much.

What does urinary incontinence actually mean? It is defined as the leakage of urine from a weak bladder, although it can be caused by many things. Obviously this can have a large impact on the quality of life of the patient, and can be extremely distressing. There is another type of incontinence - fecal incontinence - but we will be discussing urinary in this article.

Urinary incontinence is usually a sign of a completely different underlying problem that is often very treatable. That's why visiting your doctor is vital so that the actual problem can be solved, as it may get worse if ignored. Because of this incontinence isn’t considered a disease in itself as it can be caused by many things,

One way of coping with urinary incontinence is to use pads for incontinence or pants for incontinence. The material these are made of is impermeable so it soaks up any excess liquid that may have caused embarrassing problems while out and about. Pads and pants aren't a cure but they can definitely help improve quality of life, let alone confidence in going out. you should till visit your doctor as soon as possible, but also consider buying some of these pads that can be reused.

Incontinence can be caused by many different things, including pregnancy, dehydration, over hydration and UTIs. If you visit your doctor as soon as possible they should be able to give you a diagnosis. If the underlying problem can be solved, then incontinence is usually solved with it although not in all cases.
