A third of people employed in full-time jobs won’t take a single day’s annual leave even though they have world-class vacation destinations all within easy reach
Australia’s largest study into annual leave accrual conducted by Tourism Australia showed that nearly sixty per cent of full-time workers didn’t use up their annual leave entitlement of four weeks. Many Australians have accummulated 8 weeks or more leave.
According to the study, people in Australia also work longer hours than anywhere else in the developed world.
Short, weekend breaks have grown in popularity as the traditional, three-week family seaside holiday goes out of favour.  The economic slowdown has also contributed to the slump in tourism, both domestic and international.  But while a weekend escape is seen by many as sufficient to recharge the batteries, health experts have a different view.
According to the experts, holidays are an essential component of a healthy life.Researchers from the State University of New York at Oswego did a study on over twelve thousand men between the ages of 35 and 57 and found that men who took annual holidays reduced their overall risk of dying by about twenty per cent.Taking an annual holiday can also reduce their risk of death from heart disease by up to 30%.
Australians shouldn’t have any excuse to avoid taking leave, given that they have so many amazing holiday destinations within easy reach.Even the most fatigued, stressed-out traveller in WA can’t help but be inspired by the abundant attractions and quality accommodation in the Margaret River area.  Incredible beaches, natural beauty, abundant wineries and eating out choices, local attractions and child-friendly activities combined with a wide range of holiday homes in Margaret River make it a holiday destination that’s easy to reach and hard to beat.
Experts agree that regular holidays are necessary to maintain a healthy, balanced life.  A 2005 study from the Marshfield Clinic in Wisconsin showed that women who don’t take regular holidays were two to three times more likely to be depressed than women who take regular breaks.
Australians are among the worst in the world when it comes to skipping holidays.Men between the ages of 35 and 49 working in the corporate world have accrued the most leave, with half of them having children under the age of 12.
Families need holidays, says Margaret River accommodation agency, Seaside Holiday Home Accommodation, which has over sixty hand-picked holiday homes in its portfolio.”Adults need holidays just as much as kids do, in order to bond together, communicate, relax and recharge. For a vacation that suits everyone, renting self-catering accommodation in Margaret River is one of the best ways of clearing the cobwebs, kicking back and relaxing.”
