It is easy to have high cholesterol and never know it. In fact, most of the symptoms are difficult for the person having high cholesterol to notice. Most of the time, the only symptom of high cholesterol is an abmormal blood test. If a patient has high blood pressure, then high cholesterlo can do a lot of damage.

The good news is that while it is hard to detect, high cholesterol is not impossible to find. Severe high cholesterol levels can cause xanthomas, which is when the tendons and joints become bogged down with excessive fat deposits. Other serious symptoms can be enlargement of the spleen and liver.

To discover if the spleen and/or live has become engorged, a doctor usually just has to press down on the region of those organs. This makes the detection of the enlargement very easy. Pancreatitis, which causes horrible pain in your abdomen, can be yet another symptom of extremely high cholesterol levels.

As previously stated, elevated cholesterol levels are generally not very symptom indicative, but usually lead to more serious conditions. Other serious, and potentially fatal, conditions associated with high cholesterol are heart disease, hypertension or peripheral vascular disease.

High cholesterol can lead to plaque being deposited in the arteries. This can cause blockage of the Coronary artery. This blockage can lead to a decreased supply of oxygen to the heart that can lead to coronary failue or heart attack.

Although it is by no means common, there are some very specific lipid disorders form which people suffer that give the appearanc of hypertension. Take, for example, familial hypercholesterolemia. It can show very distinct high blood pressure symptoms. The most common of these is the enormous build up of peculiar and large deposits of cholesterol. These appear in the eyelids, as well as in all of the tissue surrounding the eyes.

Additionally, the deposits of cholesterol can form small lumps that appear to be almost boil-like on the feet and hands. Furthermore, this strange formation of cholesterol build up can give the feet, legs and hands a yellow color that also appears to be in streaks.
